Fumbling Toward Culinary Talent: Spinach-Artichoke Dip

I got Colbert's Does This Taste Funny? cookbook a while back, and I've been trying out the recipes. All of them I've done have been good so far.

I made the warm artichoke dip, but Mrs. Nasty called for spinach in it, so I adapted Colbert's recipe.

Ingredients
3/4 cup of mayo
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1 can of artichoke hearts, chopped into small pieces
1/4-1/3 cup of cooked spinach, drained
1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt
Salt and pepper to taste
Paprika

Process
Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees. In a mixing bowl, add all these ingredients together and transfer to an oven-safe bowl of some sort. Sprinkle paprika on top of the concoction.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, take it out, and let it cool for approximately 10 minutes.

Random Notes from a Crank

I despise how journalist use the term "false claim" such as Moscow Don is "making a false claim" that the Democrats are to blame for his administration separating children from their parents. Call it what it is: It's a goddamned LIE.

It's what that narcissistic goon does best: Lies.

During Josh Brolin's appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Brolin read Trump tweets in Thanos's voice. Check it out.

It starts around 9:45 in.

2016 and 2017 have been two straight years of new Weezer albums.

Here are a couple of tunes from the new one, Pacific Daydream

If you want to listen to some old school R&B, St. Paul and the Broken Bones is the band you might want to listen to.

Music Friday: "No Shirts, No Shoes, No Knuckleheads"

I'm a regular watcher of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Last night they debuted Colbert and Simpson's song being played on the Waffle House jukebox at the restaurant Colbert frequented in Charleston, SC.

Here's the first time they played it.

Music Friday: "Brace for Impact (Live a Little)" & "In Bloom"

Sturgill Simpson put out a new album recently, and it's good.

Here's a couple of tunes from it. The second song is a Nirvana cover. Enjoy.

Random Notes from a Crank

Here are some interesting stats from the March Harper's Index:
  • Number of refugees arrested in the United States on terrorism-related charges since 2001: 10
  • Number of natural-born U.S. citizens: 320
  • Portion of people who worry that a family member will be a victim of terrorism: 1/2
  • Number of people killed by political or religious extremists on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001: 93
  • Percentage of these deaths attributable to far-right-wing political extremists: 52
  • Number of times the average American checks his or her phone each day: 46

The Fix of the Washington Post has a good interview with the esteemed historian Eric Foner who answers questions about this coming presidential election. It's interesting and related to some conservative commentators' calls for establishment Republicans creating a new party. Check out "Is the GOP Really on the Verge of Breaking in Two? Here's What History Says."

For all the bellicose talk by presidential candidates about ISIS, they need to read "Attacking ISIS Won't Make Americans Safer."

Also in the same issue of The Atlantic, there was a very positive piece of what is going on in some parts of America. James Fallows' "How America Is Putting Itself Back Together" might brighten people's spirits.

This satirical video is worth your time.

Music Friday: "Worry"

I'm not much into music that has an electronica tinge, but after watching the performance of Jack Garratt on Colbert's show, I downloaded his album.

It's not the type of music that is in my regular wheelhouse, but it's good. Interesting stuff.

Below is Garratt's performance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Music Friday: "Silicon Valley" & "The Season/Carry Me"

I am a dedicated viewer of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

His program provides an eclectic array of musicians to close out his shows.

Of all of the performances so far, the recent one by Anderson .Paak was quite the deal. I don't have any music by this guy, but I may have to get Malibu soon.

The Real Socialist Candidate for Prez

For those of you who are happy to describe Obama as a socialist, America's freedom fighter Mr. Colbert interviewed Brian Moore, the true socialist candidate for President, last night.

Click HERE to watch that episode. His interview with Brian Moore begins at 7:06 in. And I also recommend you watch his interview with the author Sherman Alexie, which is really funny stuff.

Obama is a capitalist.

Enough the red-baiting bullshit.
