Stay Positive: French Fries & the Chicago Dog

As Mrs. Nasty and I were sitting at a Freddy's yesterday, we had a brief discussion about what form of French fries are the best. She likes the thin little fries that Freddy's and Steak-n-Shake feature. However, they're probably my least favorite form of fries.

With that said, I hereby provide my rankings of the forms of French fries:

  1. Crinkle cut fries such as the ones features at Portfillo's and other places
  2. Steak fries
  3. Fast-food fries such as the ones at Wendy's and McHughs (for readers in east central Illinois)
  4. Waffle fries
  5. Curly fires
  6. Thin little fries
So you might be wondering why I went to Freddy's when I don't like their fries?

Well, they have a good version of the Chicago dog. I get it just without the onions because I dislike raw onions.

Now, if you cook onions, they're fine.

A good Chicago dog, which I usually get when I go to Portillo's, has to feature a hot dog that has great snap to it.

Huzzah for sport peppers.

Schlabach's Revision of the Pre-Season Top 25

Today ESPN writer Mark Schlabach updated his "Way-Too-Early Preseason Top 25."

Here are my initial thoughts in response to his rankings:

  • LSU and USC being 1 and 2 respectively are good bets. Both are stacked with talent and have favorable schedules.
  • I wonder if this will finally be the season that Georgia goes to the BCS Championship game. Like LSU and Alabama over the past five years, Richt has recruited really well, outstanding in fact. But they never seem to capitalize on their opportunities.
  • West Virginia in the Big 12, huh? They make sense as a fit for that offense-first, defense-challenged conference. I don't think they finish that high though.
  • I think the Spartans win the Big 10.
  • The Gators might be a top ten team at the end of the season. Their new offensive coordinator knows his stuff.
If you have thoughts on Schlabach's rankings, feel free to provide them in the comments section.

Grading the Outfitters

I happened upon this short article from TreeHugger.com today and thought I'd pass it along.

The article grades assorted retailers on the working conditions of their supply chains.

Click HERE if you're interested to see how Target, Ann Taylor, Levi's, Wal-Mart and others rank. What I'm curious about, however, are the specific reasons behind these grades. For example, what are the significant differences between a C+ and B rating?

And I usually worry about grade inflation in general anyway since from my experience people think they deserve Bs for C or D level work.
