Music Friday: "Mr. Brownstone"

My son played a varsity baseball game at a school this morning, and the announcer/DJ played this song in between one inning.

It's a song about heroin.

Mr. announcer, you need to do better.

Music Friday: "Welcome to the Jungle"

Early this week I received good news about a major writing project. Yesterday I received annoying news about a different writing project.

As much as the good news is really good and that writing project is much bigger than the other one, the annoying news has given me a grumpy attitude.

So I look to music, as usual, for help.

In commemoration of my fraternity's chapter's annual founding-day celebration this weekend, I offer "Welcome to the Jungle" because the song is fun and it makes me happy.

Why you might ask?

None of your business. Just enjoy some classic GnR.

Music Friday: "Patience"

This Music Friday is a semi-shout-out to my freshman year roommate.

Back in August of 1989, he brought his "boombox" and a bevy of cassettes. But, if I recall correctly and I think I do, he had four cassettes in heavy rotation: The Greatest Hits of The Steve Miller Band, an album I don't remember, The Traveling Willburys, and Guns-n-Roses' Lies.

To this day when I hear the song linked HERE, my reaction is a combo of unease and exasperation because he played those four albums so often, especially "Patience."

I'm sure you'll enjoy the music video more than I do.
