Band Names Gratis

Although I did play the drums back in junior high and part of high school, I've never been in a band. I wrote some lyrics for my buddy's band back in college, but that's about the closest I ever got.

Every once in a while, I have possible band names float through my little brain because I'm into music, so I thought I'd share some that have rattled through my head as of late:

  • Wintry Mix
  • Freudian Slips
  • Pudding Film
  • JFK's Mistresses
  • That Funny Feeling
  • Those-Guys-You-Know-From-High-School-Who-Say-Weird-Things-At-Parties, & You're-like-"WTF"
  • Pizza Sluts
  • Tubas United
  • Collective Unconscious
  • Cassius Marcellus Clays
  • American Exceptionalism
  • Gridlock
  • Regret
  • Rubbish

These are waaay better than most actual band names. Wintry Mix is perhaps my favorite. But I would totally give the ex-boyfriends extra credit.

I would totally buy an album from Pizza Sluts, no matter what their style.

Tubas United. Or Rush.

I'm a big fan of Wintry Mix too. And Hunger Artists after the Kafka short story.

Yes, Babe, I agree. I bet you'd be a sucker for Drive-By Truckers' Pizza Deliverance. As a bonus, it has a song titled "The President's Penis Is Missing" about the Clinton/Lewinsky deal.

I don't get the comment, Foz. I remember Rush doing a spoof of themselves in their recent concert film. Did they actually go by Tubas United?

One of my favorite band names is Southern Culture On The Skids (SCOTS, for short), which has a great song title, "Holding up the roof on a cheap motel," and super lyrics, "She's likkered up / and lacquered down / She's got the biggest hair in town."

SCOTS is a fun band. They played in T-Town when I lived there, I'm pretty sure. Maybe one Music Friday I'll feature "Banana Puddin'."

You are correct, but no specific references intended. My comment/joke regarding fictitious band names that used an actual band name went over like a lead zeppelin.
