I've always enjoyed the goofy brilliance of They Might Be Giants.
This blog will host my ramblings about life. To be a bit more specific, I'll probably focus on these subjects: music, sports, food, the everyday beauty of life, and the comedy/tragedy/absurdity of our existence. That about covers it.

Music Friday: "Istanbul (not Constantinople)" & "Minimum Wage"
The other day one of my FB friends opined that Flood by They Might Be Giants is one of the best albums ever. I'm not going that far, but it is a fun album.
Here's a couple of songs from the album that I haven't featured before.

Music Friday: "Your Racist Friend"
Here's a great tune from Flood, an album one of the guys who lived down the hall from me in my dorm played all the time my freshman year.
I heard the album so much that I got tired of They Might Be Giants.
That was then.
I like the band now.

Music Friday: "Birdhouse In Your Soul" & "Your Racist Friend"
I'm going back to the late 80s with this one. When I entered college in 1989, the guy across the hall and two doors down from my dorm room loved playing Flood by They Might Be Giants.
It's a good album.
And these are two of my favorite songs on the album. The second video is their appearance on Letterman's old show.

Music Friday: "Science Is Real," "I Am a Paleontologist," "Roy G. Biv," & "Put It To The Test"
The cd I've been listening to a lot recently is one by They Might Be Giants. Not Flood, their breakthrough album in 1990, but my kids love the band's Here Comes Science cd/dvd.
Although edifying and fun, the songs are earworms, so I might as well share them to infect you too. And you might learn something along the way.

Belated Music Friday: "Electric Car"
A few days ago I remembered I had forgotten to serve up a Music Friday post. Sorry about that. I haven't had my laptop on over the past few days, so I never got around to it.
Anyway, on the plane ride back from Florida this afternoon, I read an optimistic article by Kiera Butler in the current issue of Mother Jones. Her "Econundrums" column takes on eight electric car myths, which reminded me of the song "Electric Car" by They Might Be Giants, which is on the band's Here Comes Science album, which followed two previous kids albums: Here Come the ABCs and Here Come the 123s. If you have young kids, I strongly recommend the trilogy of albums/DVDs. And Schoolhouse Rock.
