Off-Week Blues

Since Alabama doesn't play this Saturday, to satiate my college football addiction I offer picks for some select games this Saturday.

Arkansas at Auburn: Sometime the offense at the Barn has to wake up. The Tigers...wait, the Plainsmen....wait, the War Eagles of Auburn finally get it together down at the Cow College. The Barn by a touchdown.

LSU at Florida: I'm still not buying LSU's QB. Florida wins, but it'll be close.

Tennessee at Georgia: Georgia will demolish the Viles. Phat Phil will eat more because of stress. That orange color will turn even uglier.

South Carolina at Kentucky: The Wildcats will block the Cocks. Big Blue by a field goal.

Vanderbilt at State: If Vanderbilt starts 6-0, I can believe that a black man with a Muslim-sounding name will become President. Beware of the Bulldogs from Starkville. Mississippi State by a point.

Oklahoma State at Mizzou: The Tiggers tune up before their trip to Austin. This game might be defense-optional. But I think the Tiggers win it before they get beat by the Longhorns.

Oklahoma at Texas. Hook 'em!

Forget football. I want some baseball insight on why the Cubs looked like Little Leaguers this week.

Because they are the Cubs. Duh.

Free clue for Cubs management, Soriano is a horrible leadoff hitter.

The whole point of the game is not making outs, that is, getting on base. A 330-340 OBP for the guy who gets the most plate appearances is a Bad Thing.

Soriano needs to hit second or third.

You want insight, Foz?

Here you go: They choked. That's what they do.

Maybe Nick Saban isn't all that bad....

"I've always thought Gary was one of the best people in the business. He is a genuinely good person (and) he has a great personality. If a young person is looking for someone to emulate, you could never go wrong emulating Gary."

Bobby Petrino bailed on the Falcons and the NFL for this?

"LSU at Florida: I'm still not buying LSU's QB. Florida wins, but it'll be close."

Taylor, you sound like Lee Corso on Gameday.

"Tennessee at Georgia: Georgia will demolish the Viles. Phat Phil will eat more because of stress. That orange color will turn even uglier."

Timmy, we know you have utter disdain for the Vols.

"South Carolina at Kentucky: The Wildcats will block the Cocks. Big Blue by a field goal."

It's understandable that you're hoping Kentucky plays well to cover the fact that your Tide could only muster a 3-point win at home?

"Vanderbilt at State: If Vanderbilt starts 6-0, I can believe that a black man with a Muslim-sounding name will become President. Beware of the Bulldogs from Starkville. Mississippi State by a point."

By a point? There you go being all Lee Corso-ish again!

"Oklahoma State at Mizzou: The Tiggers tune up before their trip to Austin. This game might be defense-optional. But I think the Tiggers win it before they get beat by the Longhorns."

Tiggers?!?! You just had to get your dig in, didn't you? It'll be strength (Cowboys' run offense) against strength (Tigers' run defense) on Saturday night as a Gold Rush invades Faurot.

"Oklahoma at Texas. Hook 'em!"

Although I'd love to see it, the fact is, save for a couple Vince Young games, Stoops and the Sooners have dominated recently in this series.

I almost picked OK State in upset, but they're playing in Columbia.

If I were to do a proper imitation of Corso, I would have written "closer than the experts."

I think Kentucky has a very good front four on D, and I've always liked Kentucky. Of the other SEC schools that I like, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Georgia, and Kentucky vie for second place. But Ole Miss probably wins in the that competition. Oxford is one of the best college towns out there.

Kentucky's tradition in basketball is like Alabama's tradition in football.

Wow. Do you really dislike Mizzou that much or are you just trying to get under the skin of us fans? If the latter, well played sir.

Mizzou 52, OK St. 28

Over/Under on number of Mizzou punts: 1.5

It's merely psychological warfare learned from our times at 207 E. Normal and 815 S. Davis.

If you recall, I picked Mizzou to play in the BCS Championship Game vs. USC. Kiss of death for the latter.

My dislike for Mizzou stems from competing with their Admissions reps when I worked for Truman. Some of those Mizzou reps liked to "dirty rush."

The TiGers have a legit shot. They'll have to solve Texas and possibly OU though. OK State is an interesting team though. They could take out OU and have done so in the past.
