This blog will host my ramblings about life. To be a bit more specific, I'll probably focus on these subjects: music, sports, food, the everyday beauty of life, and the comedy/tragedy/absurdity of our existence. That about covers it.

Music Friday: Memorial Day Weekend Edition
Well, I'm posting this on Thursday, but most of you folks may not read this until Friday. But I humbly submit Jason Isbell's "Dress Blues."
Have a great Memorial Day weekend, folks.
We're off to Waterloo to have Virg and Deloras spoil the grandkids. Virg also needs some yard work done.
Yep, while I really like the acerbic political statements in Isbell's "The Devil Is My Running Mate," "Dress Blues" provides a basic story that listeners can relate to.
And when you bring political baggage to the song, at the end of the song you have your own luggage, not the artist's.

Jason Isbell's lyrics paint great pictures. The greatest thing about the song is that it focuses on the Marine, Matt Conley, not politics.
Google ESPN and Matt Conley for a great article on ESPN.com (of all places) about this young man and his young family. It's very moving stuff.
