What's up with that? Wait, I know. It's about $$$/contracts. The "world leader" has to broadcast boring-ass pro basketball.

I'm hankering for some baseball, people. Where's ESPN Ocho when you need it?

No Green

I rarely wear green on St. Patrick's Day, but my kids did.

People like to say that "everybody's Irish on St. Pattie's Day," but we all know that's an excuse for drinking.

With all the greenwashing going on with businesses these days, I'm not interested in doing some personal greenwashing. 

I'm not Irish. I have English blood in me, hence the surname of "Nasty." The English were the oppressors in that little ethnic struggle across the Atlantic, so I have no interest in parading as something I'm not. 

My kids are true mutts though. With the mixture of the blood of me and Mrs. Nasty, the kids are part Norwegian, Danish, German, English, French, Dutch, and Irish.   

Green is my favorite color, however. 

And one of my favorite euphemisms is "Irish confetti," aka bricks.

"Recession Gardens"?

An article today by the AP relates the spurt of growth in home gardening. Click HERE to read "Dollars from Dirt."

While I had a little garden in St. Louis (some tomatoes and herbs), I started a small vegetable garden last year to grow some good stuff: various types of lettuce, okra, green beans, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, and so on.

I put in three rows of different types of lettuce (Concept, Ermosa, and Black Seeded Simpson) and two rows of carrots today. I'm going to have to wait for it to get warmer for the green beans, okra, pickling cucumbers, and broccoli rabe though. 

The Old Mint

My hotel here in San Francisco is right across from the old US Mint, which must be some kind of historical landmark. Regardless of its status, bums like to sleep there at night. I saw two getting up to meet the day this morning as I started my walk to the conference hotel.

Bums sleeping at the old US Mint, anyone can to take a stab at that symbolism?

After visiting another big city, I can say that I'm happy living in a small town again. As urban areas go though, I did like living in St. Louis and KC because they're both metro areas that aren't too big.

Once you get past "small market" city size, there's just too much big town "stuff" to put up with.

Frosted Flakes

Since my daughter has a two hour long gymnastics session every Monday, my son and I do some shopping on Mondays. The usual places we hit from time to time are Home Depot, County Market (grocery store), Staples, the Cross County Mall, or Big Lots.

As the boy and I were tooling around Big Lots today, there was a surplus of Frosted Flakes on the shelves. The boxes displayed Michael Phelps alongside Tony the Tiger.

If there every was a cereal that calls out to the THC-enhanced public, Frosted Flakes would have to be a good candidate. Maybe Lucky Charms or Cocoa Krispies are better choices though?

Regardless, they're GREEEEEAAAAAT!

It's time to start getting preparing for fantasy baseball at the Nasty residence.

As a usual rite of late winter/spring, I contemplate a name change for my team. The Schlitzophrenics is a good name, but I'm tempted to go with the Charleston Copperheads for historical significance. I'm a new version of a "Peace Democrat." 

I think I'll stick with the 'phrenics though.
